Welcome to my Substack page! After years of developing my Instagram (IG) page “seeaimeeyelp”, posting on Yelp (Aimee A.), and this year, exploring different platforms such as Atmosfy and Franki, it was suggested by people who know me to start writing more extensively - something beyond a 40-word post or a quick quip under an image or in a video. Why would they suggest that, you ask?
So let’s start WAY at the beginning, shall we? I am a former English teacher by profession. Don’t worry, I have a photo somewhere of that. I promise I’ll find it. That identity has always lended itself to my approach to the world. “Let’s try it, let’s communicate about it.” Writing is not anything if not an ongoing process. And truly, this parallels my exploration of businesses, restaurants, and services. I am willing to try things, mostly, and tell the story of those trials.
When the pandemic hit, the importance of telling stories about small businesses really became the initial focus of my IG page. I also quickly discovered a community of others doing the same thing - sharing their food and service experiences, taking (endless) photos and videos of food, and talking (constantly) about flavors and customer service. I enjoy being part of that community and found it a good way to stay connected to people of all ages. I also realized how important word of mouth is (ask anyone who has had a bad experience with customer service), and realized my web musings could help small businesses who don’t have large marketing budgets. More on that in the future.
As a native Angeleno, and eventually, a member of Yelp LA Gold Elite, I love to write about and share places in and around the City of Angels, although sometimes I’ll have out-of-town gems to share. I also READ a lot of reviews, especially when traveling, as I value the experiences people share….and of course, the word of mouth factor.
So putting all those thing together into a fleshed out newsletter began to make more and more sense. Welcome again to my Substack newsletter, See Aimee Write! My goal here is to post regularly and to share food, places, habits and hobbies. As mentioned, you can also find me on other platforms (see below). Plus, I am always looking for a good breakfast spot (mainly in Los Angeles, but anywhere when I travel) so reach out with any recommendations or comments.
